The Ridabocks live on the coast New England and create their hand blown glass in their own studio. They like the
peaceful setting that nature provides and have found it conducive to the development of their art forms.
Peter has been blowing glass since 1976 and has had the
opportunity to work with some of the world's finest glass artists; to name a few: Dale Chihuly, Dan Dailey, Richard Ritter and Fritz Driesbach. Lisa received a B.F.A. degree
in painting in 1980 and has been honored with awards for her paintings. She is also a professional colorist and has participated in forecasting color palettes for the Color Marketing Group and the Color Association of America.
Ridabock glass takes a painterly approach to surface design. Colors merge and blend in such a way as to suggest brush strokes. The imagery, although intentionally abstract, recalls life beneath
the ocean. The ocean, being a visual part of their daily life, is a constant source of inspiration.
Each Ridabock piece is original and the only one of it's kind. They are made entirely of glass, starting with a gather of molten
glass at the end of a blowpipe. The glass is blown and shaped with wet newspaper and hand tools. The surface design is a collage of glass dots, cane and shards. All of these design elements are handmade by Peter
on a previous day. These elements are laid out into a composition and fused into the surface of the hot glass. The fusion procedure is done piece by
piece using tweezers and a torch. After encasing the finished piece with a layer of crystal, it is then ready to be annealed and slowly cooled n an oven for over 12 hours.
Ridabock
hand blown glass is the combined efforts of 2 people, Peter Ridabock and Lisa Ridabock. They create collaboratively in all aspects of their glass and business. Lisa
develops the color combinations and is responsible for much of the work's concept and design. Peter brings the designs they
have collaborated on, to life, by applying his personal style and skills perfected from years of glass blowing, training and experience. The Ridabock's support and consult each other in all
decisions concerning their glass and hope that some of the joy in making it is passed on to the people who purchase it.
